Rearing it's ugly head once more...

Once again, ignorance rears it's ugly head...

Maybe it's just that I and about a hundred fifty or so other people heard Grossman say to vote NO for donating money to Honor Flight, but that is what the rest of us heard.
Yes, even though he originally recommended to give them money, but he wants to put conditions on the donation. The money to go ONLY CV vets. Ridiculous! Especially when you consider that any eligible CV Vet will go regardless of any donation being made. Of course he came out with his traditional "I have CPA after my name" bologna. NEWSFLASH!!! No one cares!
Then his friends print this on their blog:
The recommendation by Mr.Edward Grossman to send some money to our Honor Flight Veterans was passed. For only $5,000. Not as much as we wanted. But UCO did not ear mark this for only the Century Village Vets. Ed explained the law on this and it could have be so done. He wanted it to be specifically for the CV Vets. But the smart one is against Edward Grossman and he will always do the opposite to Ed's desires. So he chose to tell the CPA that he was wrong and so the money was donated to the Honor flight no strings attached. Not bad.

But the angry people came out and started an argument about who loves our Vets more. The worst example was Bob Rivera. He let us all know that he was the only Vet around. The rest of us Vets don't count. And Grossman was mis-aligned fiercely by Bob.

Gary, it's not who loves our vets more... and I am not saying nor never said I was the only vet around. On the contrary, I am for all vets. I wear a red shirt on Fridays because RED SHIRT FRIDAY IS FOR  Remember Everyone Deployed!
Your attempt to make me look like I am thinking of myself as the only vet is ludicrous at best. I have been trying to curb my responses to the normal stupidity and ridiculousness of the so-called malcontents and their regular disturbances and rhetoric at the Delegate meetings. The idiocy of your comment above tells me that you simply need to take a step back, remove your head from Grossman's rear end and take a breath of fresh air.

what is Main Function

I watched this month's Delegate Assembly Meeting online with so surprise to the usual rhetoric about how someone didn't get to read this or that before it was brought up for a vote... same thing EVERY TIME  a vote comes up. they want something put off until the following month "so they could read it". If they were so interested, why didn't they request a copy the day before? why are some things not great to release too early?
There have been unscrupulous people in the past that have released information to those that really shouldn't get it and it winds up in the hands of venders competition, and can skew a contract the wrong way and we could wind up voting for something totally different from what is expected.
UCO's function is to obtain the best possible contract for the village. THAT IS ACTUALLY IT'S MAIN FUNCTION. Not to handle the little daytoday problems of your association.
UCO doesn't care what color you want to paint your railings, although If asked, I am sure someone there will be happy to give their opinion which someone MAY take for advice... Be very careful what you ask of UCO, and UCO be aware of your answers.
Remember, everyone has an opinion, most of them are not correct, some are. listen carefully for what you believe to be the right answer and by all means, support it.
Some will find enlightenment while others will carry on with the belief that they and only they are right and ever will ever be right, And to them in particular, I ask, do you know what UCA's function really is? It's not to settle quarrels about what plant you want on your front yard, or whether your railing should be gray, blue red or sky-blue-pink. It works out contracts.
Committees are formed to oversee an issue, then they resolve the issue and if need be it comes before the DA.
If you don't read the papers put out, or come in the day before and get an advance copy, then you are not doing YOUR job.
In closing, a heathy happy new year. Good luck to those that are running for office, and let's see how many more we can get.

$8000 for a mural on the indoor pool?

Have all senses been lost? Why would anyone pay EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS to paint a pretty picture at the bottom of a pool?
Reasons to Have it:
1. it's pretty
2. .....
well, let's move on to reasons NOT to have it:
1. It is a waste of money, especially in a time where there is so much argument about wasted funds
2. It can become a hazard. Think about someone drowning and not being seen until it is too late because the colors of the mural camouflaged the person in the water, and we all know, our vision in the village is not the best, as the frequent passing of the stop signs would suggest.
3. it would benefit the residents to take that money and put a sidewalk into Duck island's dock (which in my opinion was also a waste of money, but if your gonna do it, do it right)
Eight thousand dollars? Hell, We have artists in the village that would probably do it for a song and a bottle of wine.

A Moot Point

Esther is shouting out her victory. How she is now on the Exec Board thanks to Marilyn 's "offer" and getting her group to walk out on the assembly.

Walking out accomplished nothing but make the assembly quiet and orderly for the remainder of the meeting. Since nothing needed to be voted on at that point, the walk-out was moot.

Not much of a victory if you ask me.

comments on some stuff.

As I read the totally idiotic comments or eulogy written for Ed Black, it occurs to me, that every time someone does something perceived as wrong in any way in UCO, this particular person always calls for the removal or resignation of the one that offends her. At that rate there would be none left to run UCO, but is that actually the objective of this person? Get everyone out, so she could become the ever self important person she perceives herself to be. There is a term for that. Narcissism.
I may not agree with everything Ed does, but I respect his commitment to the village and its residents. Should the malcontent faction ever manage to take over this village, they will immediately remove Ed and his expertise, then we can go back to 1973. Who knows, maybe they'll bring back the tram throughout the village again. Whoohoo! Oh, but that might mean going back to paying for rides around the village... And the only store you'd have access to is Publix. Like they don't overcharge the residents as it is.
The criticism of many of UCO's people and officers comes mainly from those that THINK they know, but actually haven't a clue. They call the Reporter a rag, but in fact the trash they write, is nothing but rehashed blog entries. They don't publish who writes their trash, because a third of it is liable and they could be personally sued.
They criticized renters that work for UCO and claim they sit on committees or run them, but have a renter as their editor of the bird dropping catcher they say they publish. They collect advertising fees but I wonder how they manage to sell anything as they obviously don't actually publish anything on paper, not that I have ever seen... If I advertised with them, I would demand my money back. They must tell the advertisers that they distribute throughout the village, when we know, that is a lie. I wonder what their advertisers would think if they knew?

Star Wars all over again...You must Turn to the Dark side.

Hell hath no Fury like a woman scorned. No truer words could be spoken. Since the people at the Reporter actually did nothing but complain about her demands for this and that, and finally tired of constant complaints and criticisms of everyone and everything that wasn't done her way and did what was long overdue. She was fired. No, she didn't resign, she was fired. The result?
Bettie Bleckman has turned to the dark side.

More on Gary's blog...or is it Olga's?

Gary,

Kind of difficult to say your blog is open and fair when you have someone that does the exact opposite. Guess it's not your blog after all...
Olga admits publicly to blocking my comments if she get to them first.
David blocking you or anyone else on his blog is his option, not mine. Olga's childish statement only proves that she is not a leader. Only a loudmouthed troublemaker.

here is what was on Gary's blog:

Monday, July 27, 2015

Truth above all.

Truth must hold sway above all. Yes, Bob you have never been blocked from my blog, as I have never been been blocked from yours. State your opinions here all you want. You are welcome.

The problem we have with blog replies is that the Great One has block me from his blog, therefore I can only answer you here on the Free and Open Blog, not on the blog limited to Israel's 100 friendlies.

As for the Renters and their lack of representation. A renter can represent the owner and the Association Delegates also represents the Unit Owner.

Since we practice the Sunshine Rules, why should not a renter be allowed in, why not a Blogger allowed in, why not a ABC News rep allowed in? This is supposed to be open and free for all.

1 comment:

  1. For the record Bob, I blocked you and I will continue to do so if I see your comment before Gary does. I will gladly restore your privilege to comment when you friend David Israel allows me to post on HIS blog.
    Fair is Fair.

THANKS FOR THE INVITATION

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your invitation.

Why do people post anonymously?

Plan and simple, fear. Fear that the trash they say will put them in a courtroom.  If they use a made up name or anonymous, they think if can not be traced.
They can not or will not be seen as someone who will rock the boat. They think themselves respectable and would not be caught saying the filth and trash they say online.
Needless to say, they are NOT respectable and in fact are just cowardly trash.

WE HAVE MUCH MORE PRESSING ISSUES...

Term Limits again? Why are the so-called malcontents always so riled up for term limits? Term limits are right in front of their faces every time you go to the polls. Every time! They keep yelling for term limits and the delegates shut them down. Is it not obvious that Most agree? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Are there problems at UCO? Of course there are, but why not try offering solutions instead of causing more problems? Stupid lawsuits or Throwing everyone out of UCO and starting from scratch isn't a solution. Not likely. There aren't enough experienced people for that to happen. They say "term limits curb the potential for monopoly"... Well let's get off the Milton-Bradley Express Circuit come back to reality.
We are a village, not state nor a nation. Our village president serves a two year term, not a four year term as in our national office. If you don't want someone in office, don't vote for them. THAT is term limit. you can limit a person to a single term, as some of our national presidents, i.e. Jimmy Carter and George H. W. Bush. found out the hard way.
If the delegates vote for a candidate, then that is the will of the people. If your delegate didn't vote the way you wanted, then you need to take that up with your delegate and get a delegate that votes for their association.

We have much more pressing issues than the "I don't like David Israel" faction..
We have a MAJOR problem with Associations that "Don't care what's going on in the village, as long as I'm not affected". Let me tell you, YOU WILL BE AFFECTED.  When Century Village, a 55 and over community becomes Century Village Homeless Hotel located in sunny Western West Palm Beach, a slum for one and all... When crime starts to rise, and you begin to wonder, why didn't UCO do something about screening the criminal element coming in and out of the village?(Which by the way, is the job of the Association) You will start to wonder, "Why are my property values so much lower than what I paid to live here? Then you will begin to wonder why you have to sell below market value at bargain basement prices to the greedy developers trying to call themselves benevolent by renting to the homeless while they collect their $900-$1200 a month from the city or state. Money coming out of YOUR Taxes!!! No, they won't care that you will be forced to sell to some crooked developer for pennies on the dollar for what you paid.
What will you do? What will Mr. & Ms. Century Village do now? Become a shut-in? Worry when you want to go to the pool? Will you be afraid when you get accosted at the clubhouse, or on a bus on the way to Publix to get some groceries? Or will you just give up and sell at a loss and become the burden on your kids that you said you would never be? All because you don't care what happens unless it affects you...
Wake up my friends, it is going to affect you. Some more than others, but it WILL affect you ALL!

Do they just read the first couple of lines?

They must. maybe their attention span is so small, maybe I should write smaller paragraphs so they can understand.
And idiots like Robert make comments without reading what he talks about at all. I better stop here so they can understand this...
or before they forget... dementia... it's a bitch.

Sadie was absent from the Reporter

Yes, Sadie was very absent from the UCO Reporter this month, with reason.
As long as they carry my name on their staff, (and I have asked it to be removed) I can not submit letters to the editor, I can only write "an opinion piece".
As much as I would like to write an piece stating my opinions on some of the ridiculous crapola that has been going on, I really can not. It would then be subject to editing, or being told it would not run because of fear of offending one or more people, no matter how truthful the article is.
I can not in good conscience write a piece that will not reflect my true opinion.
The same goes for Sadie's World. There have been times when my cartoon was a bit controversial even for The Reporter and it was redone.  Only once has it been pulled without my prior knowledge because of fear that someone may be offended. and Frankly, it was probably one of the best.
I will continue to support The Reporter and it's editors Joy Vestal and Myron Silverman, even when we don't always see eye to eye.
It is with that in mind that I take particular offense that someone with absolutely no prior experience in any media other than YouTube will criticize people with 40 or 50 something years of REAL EXPERIENCE in the real world of newspapers and printing.
When he can prove he has half as much experience, then his opinion might mean something other than a bitter renter that is mad at Ed Black for curbing his use of UCO property for his own profit.

The continuing saga of the ones that think they know what's best... but have NO CLUE!

This is a continuation of the feces spread around by Neil Moore, the village renter that is constantly attacking UCO and WPRF and the people that run it.

It's obvious that the UCO Reporter is getting desperate. It looks like they are $13,000.00 in the red and the year has just started. Qualified and motivated volunteers were dismissed when they indicated the slightest opposition or criticism of the current administration. The same thing happened with channel 63 . It's apparent that both of these media outlets have been crippled by the unreasonable and discriminatory behavior of the people in charge. Now that they are unable to draw on the talents of residents who offered their services for free, the only recourse for them to continue is to bring in outside help which we all pay for. From a business perspective there are only two options unless we are willing to pour good money after bad., either close it down or clean house and start over with new blood. The second option may not be a viable alternative if the new blood continue to follow the dictates of Ed Black and David Israel and continue to maintain total control that caters to their whims at the expense of the residents. Ed Black has demonstrated his control over the activities of the Reporter time and time again. David Israel is either powerless or afraid to rein him in.I say it's time to clean house.
Reply

Boy for someone who has never done anything in the paper, you think you know a lot about it. (keyword:THINK). First off, Ed Black has nothing to do with the paper other than contacting the IT person that services the computers. You have no clue of the operations of the paper or it's finances or UCO's by-laws. This is obvious since you think we (and by we, I do mean the OWNERS of units in Century Village) should shut down the paper, and take the best editors it has ever had, people with close to a hundred years combined experience

You have a lot of people fooled. Just as you tried to fool people on 63. Your hatred of Ed Black stems from being denied use of the camera when you lost a piece and didn't replace it and when they found out you were using UCO property for your own profit with your commercial ventures. So please, just stop your nonsense and crawl back into the hole you came out of.

Where Oh Where are the Guards?

Yep, when he’s not napping he “guards” the place.
Hide them here,
Hide them there
Do not fear!
We have security cameras!
   So sayeth: The Scarlet Pimpernel

There is no such thing as perfect security.  The problem is that security and surveillance can claim unlimited powers  and operate with unlimited secrecy and no accountability.

Just a thought, knowing that the Haverhill fence is near its shelf life, why has UCO not addressed this sooner.

The following  taken from Gary's Blog...or is it Olga's?

THE UCO REPORTER BEGS: SAVE US FROM BECOMING ANOTHER PENNYSAVER.
Under the direction of Joy vestal and co-editor Myron Silverman, the UCO Reporter has lost its purpose.  The UCO bylaws state: the intent of the UCO Reporter is to keep the unit owners informed on matters of common interest. This is no longer the case. . They have now become a venue to reap as much money as they can from advertisers to seduce CV residents to purchase and use services they do not need or are interested in.  Before this, deadly duo entered the Reporter domain, the UCO Reporter was a means providing pertinent information to its readers. It has now become a newspaper of page turning pictures.   We can no longer depend on gaining any valuable information or any knowledge to advance our thinking; opinions contrary to the present administration are banned. The  absence of a UCO reporter  at the recent  Town Hall meeting of the Messenger Club which sponsored former County Commisioner Jess Santamaria and Inspector General John Carey shows  us how clearly the reporter is intellectually starving our residents. The main topic of the meeting was perpetuity in relation to the development of the golf course. More than 200 residents attended yet no one from the UCO reporter was there to cover this important event.   Now the UCO Reporter asked and the Officers have voted to approve funding $975.00 per month to hire an AD WORKFLOW COORDINATOR to increase AD revenue. They claim they need the money to keep the reporter from becoming another Penny saver, really? What do they think the UCO Reporter filled with ads will become; a Penny saver, of course.

2 comments:

  1. While I worked at the UCO Reporterfor several years, I do remember hearing Joy Vestal say" We do not have enough articles written and I do not want this to become a "Pennysaver:" Well guess what if they hire someone to keep looking for ads for our paper and they do not have enough editorial because the co-editor Joy Vestal will only print one side of a story and won't print the other side, then isn't that going to be a Pennysave with more and more ads! Or even maybe they will fill the paper with pictures who knows, maybe the shadow.. Folks, we cannot win with these people in office.

  2. Here is MY REPLY:
  3.    Joy ALWAYS complained about the the paper becoming a Pennysaver. You have heard it and so has everyone else in that office. I have also made the same complaint!
  4. Marilyn, you and I know that Joy has been more than fair for a long time, and printed both sides of a story, that is until someone comes into the office and threatens her and calls her a "f*cking c*nt". Personally, in her position, I wouldn't accept ANYTHING from that person either.
  5. As for the Reporter not covering the Messanger Club, they made it VERY CLEAR long ago, that the Reporter was not welcomed in their meetings, especially me. Whenever I came to one of their meetings with a camera or video, I was told I could not take pictures nor video their meetings. So their complaint that it was not covered is totally invalid.
  6. Once again....

Interesting...

It is of particular interest that when I answer posts on other blogs, My answers do not always get published and if they do it may be a day or two later... In some of the postings, I have answered two days ago... coincidence? I think not.
I wonder how the elections will go tomorrow, I seriously doubt that Ed Black will win, not because he isn't qualified or doesn't do enough for this village, but because he may have rubbed some people the wrong way. If he wins, it will be an asset to the village.
Barbara Cornish, former VP, capable, intelligent, experienced. Should win easily.
Faust Fabbro, has come on the scene like gangbusters. Capable and intelligent. Will make it very close for the second available spot.
John Gluszack, former runner-up and given a shot when Phyllis Richland unfortunately retired. Which I STILL feel the village should have presented her with a plaque for all the years of work put in for the village.
Marcia Ziccardi, if you want to know what is going on around the village, ask her. As long as it isn't about the Transportation committee that she supposedly over-sees. If she gets another term, well, congrats, but I will take my business elsewhere...

Surprise endorsement? Or getting experience

I have posted the following on Gary's blog. Hopefully he will publish it, but if not, well here it is.

He says that Glusack, Ziccardy, Wolkenstein, and Sutofsky should be elected, my response:

Of the four you mention above, I would pick just one, and not for the reasons you might expect. Three, I believe have some UCO experience, one has none.
Of the three experienced candidates, two were/are Vice Presidents. One elected outright and served her full term ending Friday (unless re-elected), the other served 11 months (not 1.5 yrs. as originally claimed by him in the reporter, which he later corrected). His partial term was an experience for him to be sure, but not one that should be repeated. The other, a busybody more into eavesdropping and driving away volunteers at UCO than doing her job. In her two year term, she made annual visits to one of the committees that she "oversees (the Transportation committee). Another that should not repeat. The third, well, we all know there is no love lost there, and very little would get done.  Of the four, the only one I would like to see on the board would be Esther. Now I know all of the other side is asking why would I say that? Simple, of the four, she is the only one without actual UCO experience, and how is she to get it and show the village what she can do within the system if she can't get IN the system. I want to see what Esther can do and THIS is where she should have started. Not everyone is an Obama and start at the top.
Pay your dues and prove yourself, then go for the big one.

Marcia Zacardi speaks against SERVICE DOGS

Marcia Zacardi, UCO Vice President, speaks out at an Operations Committee Meeting on the 24th against Service Dogs and Disabled Vet plates. Clearly not knowing regulations on Service Animals, or any knowledge of State law pertaining to handicapped or disabled vet plates. I am writing this because she chose to specifically name me and my Service Dog.

to Zacardi:

Before you speak, make sure you have all your duckies in a row...

1. Sadie is a Nationally registered SERVICE DOG. Trained by Jason Divito, Certified Service Dog trainer at Canines 4 Hope Dog Training.  You may recognize him or the name of his organization from the recent coverage on a local news program praising the work he does for Vets and training their dogs. He trains and registers each dog with The United States Service Dog Registry.
You can verify Sadie's registration at http://usservicedogregistry.org
Her ID Code:1341855705

Her service to me is not of your concern and I do take issue with discussing MY PERSONAL AND MEDICAL issues in a public meeting without my presence or permission. How would you like me to bring up your personal issues at a Delegate Assembly Meeting?

2. If you look at my license plates on my car, It DOES

have the Handicap placard on the front plate as
well as the rear.

3. My motorcycle has Disabled Vet plates (you will notice they clearly start with the letters "DV") and

entitles me to same rights as my car.

4. Many VETS came back from various wars, conflicts, Operations or whatever they wish to call them and not everyone has VISIBLE injuries.

Since you obviously know NOT of what you speak, feel free to contact me if you need assistance in figuring out any of the above information, or I suggest you contact the local VA Hospital, or better yet, read a document online at http://ada.gov (see below for what you will see...makes me think about a horse...)

Disabled Vets and Service animals are clearly not your forte.

It has been suggested that I submit a story for the Reporter on this subject, but instead I think I will instead do it on my blog. http://bobusnret.blogspot.com/ in the coming weeks.

For the person suggesting a fee for having a service dog or horse, well, it clearly states below that you can not charge a fee, so...

  • U.S. Department of JusticeCivil Rights Division
    Disability Rights Section
    ADA 2010 Revised Requirements

    Service Animals

The Department of Justice published revised final regulations implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for title II (State and local government services) and title III (public accommodations and commercial facilities) on September 15, 2010, in the Federal Register. These requirements, or rules, clarify and refine issues that have arisen over the past 20 years and contain new, and updated, requirements, including the 2010 Standards for Accessible Design (2010 Standards).

    Overview

This publication provides guidance on the term “service animal” and the service animal provisions in the Department’s new regulations.
    • Beginning on March 15, 2011, only dogs are recognized as service animals under titles II and III of the ADA.
    • A service animal is a dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability.
    • Generally, title II and title III entities must permit service animals to accompany people with disabilities in all areas where members of the public are allowed to go.

    How “Service Animal” Is Defined

Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Examples of such work or tasks include guiding people who are blind, alerting people who are deaf, pulling a wheelchair, alerting and protecting a person who is having a seizure, reminding a person with mental illness to take prescribed medications, calming a person with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during an anxiety attack, or performing other duties. Service animals are working animals, not pets. The work or task a dog has been trained to provide must be directly related to the person’s disability. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.
This definition does not affect or limit the broader definition of “assistance animal” under the Fair Housing Act or the broader definition of “service animal” under the Air Carrier Access Act.
Some State and local laws also define service animal more broadly than the ADA does. Information about such laws can be obtained from the State attorney general’s office.

    Where Service Animals Are Allowed

Under the ADA, State and local governments, businesses, and nonprofit organizations that serve the public generally must allow service animals to accompany people with disabilities in all areas of the facility where the public is normally allowed to go. For example, in a hospital it would be inappropriate to exclude a service animal from areas such as patient rooms, clinics, cafeterias, or examination rooms. However, it may be appropriate to exclude a service animal from operating rooms or burn units where the animal’s presence may compromise a sterile environment.

Service Animals Must Be Under Control

Under the ADA, service animals must be harnessed, leashed, or tethered, unless these devices interfere with the service animal’s work or the individual’s disability prevents using these devices. In that case, the individual must maintain control of the animal through voice, signal, or other effective controls.

Inquiries, Exclusions, Charges, and Other Specific Rules Related to Service Animals

    • When it is not obvious what service an animal provides, only limited inquiries are allowed. Staff may ask two questions: (1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability, and (2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform. Staff cannot ask about the person’s disability, require medical documentation, require a special identification card or training documentation for the dog, or ask that the dog demonstrate its ability to perform the work or task.
    • Allergies and fear of dogs are not valid reasons for denying access or refusing service to people using service animals. When a person who is allergic to dog dander and a person who uses a service animal must spend time in the same room or facility, for example, in a school classroom or at a homeless shelter, they both should be accommodated by assigning them, if possible, to different locations within the room or different rooms in the facility.
    • A person with a disability cannot be asked to remove his service animal from the premises unless: (1) the dog is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it or (2) the dog is not housebroken. When there is a legitimate reason to ask that a service animal be removed, staff must offer the person with the disability the opportunity to obtain goods or services without the animal’s presence.
    • Establishments that sell or prepare food must allow service animals in public areas even if state or local health codes prohibit animals on the premises.
    • People with disabilities who use service animals cannot be isolated from other patrons, treated less favorably than other patrons, or charged fees that are not charged to other patrons without animals. In addition, if a business requires a deposit or fee to be paid by patrons with pets, it must waive the charge for service animals.
    • If a business such as a hotel normally charges guests for damage that they cause, a customer with a disability may also be charged for damage caused by himself or his service animal.
    • Staff are not required to provide care or food for a service animal.

    Miniature Horses

In addition to the provisions about service dogs, the Department’s revised ADA regulations have a new, separate provision about miniature horses that have been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. (Miniature horses generally range in height from 24 inches to 34 inches measured to the shoulders and generally weigh between 70 and 100 pounds.) Entities covered by the ADA must modify their policies to permit miniature horses where reasonable. The regulations set out four assessment factors to assist entities in determining whether miniature horses can be accommodated in their facility. The assessment factors are (1) whether the miniature horse is housebroken; (2) whether the miniature horse is under the owner’s control; (3) whether the facility can accommodate the miniature horse’s type, size, and weight; and (4) whether the miniature horse’s presence will not compromise legitimate safety requirements necessary for safe operation of the facility.

I do not understand what is going on with our bidding system. In particular I am talking about the bid results for the Okeechobee Sign.

The info I get is that we have about $14,000 budgeted for the sign. The bids come back with only one bidder. He is bidding $44,000.

That just doesn't make sense. Why only one bidder? Why don't we have at least 3-4 bidders? What is the matter? I have been told that we are people that the contractors don't want to do business with. Why? I assume we pay our bills currently? Could it be that we set up inspectors and they are tough to deal with? I don't believe it. So what could the matter be? Do we not invite the right vendors?

I am sending a copy of this to the Cam Maybe he can enlighten us.

  1. The whole process is so secret and so confused that there is no process and nothing that makes sense. There is also no sense of what is a priority for the Villge and what is not. As for the money, they will pull it out of the slush fund they now have and when money is truly needed for something that we are contracted for or during an emergency we are going to be sitting there on our thumbs with nothing there for us. Sad but true unless we get them out as soon as we can.

  2. It's sad that you think that every time requests for bids are sent out and businesses do not want anything to do with Century Village, you would think they are going to pull the money out of some slush fund. What IS sad but true, is that companies put in bids for jobs, they get beat out by a lower bidder, or some company that has a better rep and gets picked over the lower bid, or the committees over whatever project keeps making changes and the Village is now known as being hard to deal with. I do not blame them for NOT wanting to bid on projects. Too many troublemakers, not worth the time or effort... And that comes from some of the people we seek bids from...

    1. So Bob you contend that the lackof bids for the sign is the fault of the malcontens? Or is it the fault of the Executive Committe? Or the chair?
I think your info cannot be correct.
    2. No Gary, I am not blaming the malcontents, That is the fault of a creature that burrows itself into both factions...Indecision. And that causes changes to be made constantly within, and in turn when a bidder puts his bid in, changes are made left and right, and bidders start dropping out like flies. Then when only one company puts a bid in, everyone complains that there was only one bidder. True, there was only one bidder out of many that were sent requests. This village has a reputation for being difficult to deal with, thus few or no bids. It is not just the present administration that is causing this effect, all the petty committees and people that want to stick their noses in on everything but what they should be doing.
Gary, you will notice that I have elected NOT to run for a second term on the Executive Board, Maybe I should explain why...
I am sick and tired of all the infighting amongst the present administration and the malcontents. So sick of it that I just wanted to distance myself from BOTH sides. While I still support village wide WiFi and think those vying for each individual association getting their own contract with comcast, they seem to for one VERY important thing, WITH NUMBERS COMES POWER... power to dictate TO COMCAST what we want. There are other places the village can go for contracts for cable services THAT WOULD INCLUDE WIFI.
I have made signs and worked for signmakers (Snyder and Bradford Sign and Display in Line Lexington, PA) in the past and I personally consider the bid to be on the high side. (I will consult with an expert shortly)
We have enough people in this village that know how to do some of the things needed but the one thing that comes out when something needs to be done is another two creatures called GREED AND SELFISHNESS come out... They may have knowledge of how to do something, but they want to get paid for it... then they won't share any knowledge to help out their neighbors. UGLY little monsters that need to be squashed. ALL of them.
The work I did for the Reporter saved them thousands. Even my program (left on the computer) is pretty valuable.
The sign everyone is complaining about can be made less expensively.
If the villagers here just came together and made some of these things and hired out just for the installation, we could save three fourths of that bid EASILY. But heaven help us if we were to work together on anything. It would be a definite sign of the world coming to an end.

  3. The comments made above were from the heart, especially concerning this village. I and many others love it here and want only what is best for it. I honestly wish everyone else did also. Unfortunately those that make it difficult for the ones that do their best for the village and can't decide to put aside their pettiness, paranoia and personalities are driving the ones that want to DO for the village away. This will only accomplish one thing, and that is to make Century Village into the equivalent of a New York Housing Projects.
  4. I have an aunt and cousins that have lived in the projects across the street from Police Headquarters in NYC since they were new. I saw them go from nice apartments to a slum. Do we want the same for us? I hope not.
